Amadeo Obici

The Man Who Started It All

  • In 1906, a young immigrant named Amedeo Obici founded the PLANTERS® brand. He loved the way a handful of fresh-roasted peanuts could brighten people’s day. With a helping hand from the MR. PEANUT® character, he turned his passion — and his delicious snacks — into an all-American tradition that’s still going strong.

Originally started in Wilkes-Barre, PA, Obici built his first mass-processing plant in Suffolk, VA — widely considered to be the Peanut Capital of the World.

Though his looks have changed over the years, you can always count on him to bring the party.
